It’s time to spin the old Call of Duty rumor mill! According to EuroGamer ‘s sources, this year’s Call of Duty will be Black Ops 4 . This Treyarch-developed entry will land on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, but it’s also coming to Nintendo Switch. Unlike the last couple of future-themed Black Ops titles, this one is expected to be more “grounded.”
Rumblings about Black Ops 4 began this week thanks to tweets from a self-proclaimed “industry insider” named Marcus Sellars. Sellars posted various tweets regarding Black Ops 4 — including the one below which states the FPS game is coming to Nintendo’s console/handheld hybrid system. This last point is something EuroGamer is still trying to verify.
COD 2018 is Black Ops 4 and is coming to PS4/Xbox/PC/Switch. It is set in the modern times and is boots on the ground. The Switch version will support DLC, HD Rumble and motion controls. The Switch version is also being ported by a company which is familar with COD games.

Given the negative reception to Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare , it makes sense the Black Ops series would stop moving forward in time. The first Black Ops took place during the Cold War, so it’s not like this branch of Call of Duty has always been futuristic. We know the game will be more “grounded” but we’re unsure what era it’s set in. It could be in current times like the Modern Warfare series or perhaps sometime in the recent past. It’s hard to tell, but it is unlikely we’ll see mechs in Black Ops 4 .
The Nintendo Switch port is probably the most interesting aspect of this rumor. Call of Duty: Ghosts was the last Call of Duty released on a Nintendo system (Wii U). Despite the Switch’s lack of power (compared to PS4 and Xbox One), games like Doom and the upcoming Wolfenstein II port prove the little-system-that-could is capable of running current-gen games. Will this version be scaled back graphically? How will the online component work? I guess it’s best to wait until we get more information. Stay tuned for more as it develops.
