Huawei P20 Concept Renders Surface Based On Schematic Leaks

New concept renders have now cropped up online, following leaked images from earlier in this week of what was alleged to be a new design for Huawei’s upcoming P20 rangeof devices. Those previous leaks were little more thandesign schematics and only showed off the back side of devices which are alleged to be variants of the upcoming Huawei P20. These new concepts, which are attributed to Waqar Khan, appear to use those sketches as a baseline and could be more representative of what customers should expect from the devices. However, it is important to remember that these are just concept renders and what Huawei has in store may or may not be anything like the images.

Bearing that in mind, the new renders do match up with the aforementioned schematic sketches and the progression from the Huawei P20 to the Huawei P20 Pro flows very well. There haven’t been any details revealed about the materials expected to be used with the devices, but each of the three variants has been rendered as fully encased in metal, with a nearly bezel-less front panel at the front. The back of each of the devices is dominated by a set of three cameras that are, following Huawei’s general practices with previous devices, clearly branded as having been made by Leica. However, that is effectively where the similarities end. On the Huawei P20, the three cameras are aligned horizontally and the camera housing appears to run the width of the handset, accompanied by an LED flash and sensors.  In one of the images, it has been placed next to the render of what appears to be a Samsung Galaxy S8 to provide context about the size of the device. Turning to the front of the P20, minimal bezels exist along the bottom and top but there is almost no bezel at all along either edge. A single camera is present next to a top-mounted front-facing speaker, while the bottom of the device houses a fingerprint sensor. Power and volume rockers are present along the right-hand edge and one image shows a headphone jack along the bottom edge. The Huawei P20 Plus, on the other hand, bears most of those same features but the device is shown to be larger – around the size of a Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus. The rear-facing cameras are moved to a vertical orientation along the top-left edge of the device, with the flash and sensors being placed below the sensors.

Finally, the Huawei P20 Pro changes the design much more drastically, although it would still remain obvious that the devices belong to the same series. It appears to be smaller than the P20 Plus but retains the vertical camera alignment. However, those cameras are moved to the center-top area of the device and are accompanied by a fingerprint sensor on the back, rather than the front, just below the LED Flash. Flipping over to the front of the P20 Pro, the differences are more obvious. The top bezel is nearly gone, with the exception of a notch left to house the front camera, speaker, and sensors. Meanwhile, the bottom bezel is further reduced because it no longer houses the fingerprint sensor, giving a truly full-screen aesthetic to the Huawei P20 Pro. The device is, as with the P20, depicted as featuring a headphone jack along the bottom edge. Unfortunately, as of this writing, there is nothing to confirm that the design portrayed in the concepts is accurate and they should be taken with a grain of salt. With that said, they do match up well with the previously leaked design sketches and it would be intriguing ifHuawei did have something like this in mind for its next run of P series devices.
